Script guidelines and
Character Bios and Superpowers

Existing New Phoenix Filmworks copyrighted characters include:

RetroGirl--Time manipulation, time travel and teleportation. After the incident at Spectre Mine in the Arizona Territory in 1885, and her resurrection at the Spectre Industrial Park in 2008, its unknown if she can be killed. Godlike in her abilities. Serene and almost happy-go-lucky.

PowerCat--Electromagnatism. Offensively--powerbolts of electricity, estimated at over 75,000 volts--Defensively-EM Shockwave that disables electric systems in a 50 meter radius. Concussion from the shockwave will knock down opponents with the force of 1.5 Gs.

Black Talon--originally, former gymnast with mechanical gripping claws that can create 2000 KGs P.S.I. in 3.5 seconds. Black Talon has been moved forward 15 years by RetroGirl and who also now has a synaptic bio-interface that now ties her nervous system to her exponentially increased gripping power... allowing her to lift (and throw) heavier objects like cars, and pull down buildings.

ActionGirl--No superpower...just damn lucky in most situations.Good street fighter.

The Girl in the Black Mask--Empath. Can alter a person's personality severely with touch. Not fully ready for full street combat.

Omega Girl--Excellent deductive reasoning...more like a 19th century super sleuth set in the 21st Century. Good street fighter, former gymnast....Omega Girl is similar to ActionGirl in that she has no superpower...just a sense of right and wrong and does something about it.

BASIC GUIDELINES FOR SCRIPTWRITING FOR NEW PHOENIX FILMWORKS

As you know, New Phoenix Filmworks doesn't do anything pornographic...and unlike the X-Men films with the character Mystique or the Watchmen film with Dr. Manhattan--we do not do depictions of nudity...but we do want our female heroines to be sexy and suggestive in both word and action. We also love to 'frame' our stories with a touch of either horror or humor. Sexy, double-entendre dialogue from the talent is encouraged, as our situations that our 90% male comic book audience will enjoy--bondage, fight/action scenes, unmaskings, transformations, and of course peril, peril, PERIL!

Be creative in your approach...there are classic Peril situations that can be depicted...but don't be afraid to try something new that seems dangerous or edgy...but use common sense--depict something that can be done within physical reason. Do not do the same type of peril over and over again...nothing turns off an audience faster. Be creative!

We're getting pretty good with our green screen technology...so that will help in your peril depiction decisions...

In your structure, try to start off with a bang...or build to a First Encounter our heroine will deal with. If you don't know what writing structure is, look up the works of Syd Field, Christopher Vogler and of course, Joseph Campbell.

Finally, two things-- an Andyism to remember from the NPF school of screenwriting:

1) "Nobody wants to be first, everybody wants to be second"--

Remember Alien? With the chest-bursting? Before that, no one was doing anything like that...after, there had to be at least 20 rip offs of that scene. We're also guilty of not doing everything unique as well...but at least we're aware of it and try new things. We don't want this sub-genre to turn out like the vampire sub-genre..one that is so static and creatively stifled and hasn't changed in 50 years...don't be afraid to take chances in your script!

and a quote attributed to Woody Guthrie, American philosopher:

"Any damn fool can make something complicated...it takes a genius to keep it simple."

Don't try to impress with a complicated script it would take millions to shoot...impress with something that can be executed efficiently and relatively inexpensively for maximum entertainment value. Think about that.

Scripts will pay $150-$250 depending on how closely our guidelines are followed, entertainment value, and length. You will be credited by name, or a non-de-plume if you prefer. If you're not sure about something, ask, don't assume. If you're really good and reliable, repeat assignments will follow.

Good Luck!

RETROGIRL/JESSICA de la FUENTE

Age: Standard Greenwich Earth Time—23

Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona USA

Superpower: time manipulation to a factor of 10. Direct Synaptic Bio-Interface (DSBI) implanted into her cerebral cortex by RetroWoman in initial encounter allows her to access Imaginary Time powered by the Sun …access off the charts—best guess of Solar power access to ‘fuel’ RetroGirl: 24 million million terawatts.

RetroGirl can speed up or slow down time to a factor of ten…as a result, she can appear to be 10x stronger and faster than a normal female human of the same stature. She seems to be able to hit an opponent at 10x normal speed with 10x the normal force.

Secondary effects: Teleportation from one time and place to another. Can also momentarily defy gravity when running at full power. Can alter face and body if and when necessary.
Weaknesses: Can access this level of power for only 15 seconds per hour.

The most ‘godlike’ of superheroines, RetroGirl is quietly setting up the players in a grand drama that is slowly taking shape…altering one collegue superheroine, and intervening only when absolutely necessary.

Enemy/rival: Influence is the only enemy whose powers are as supernatural to compete with RetroGirl. Also, Temporal Sentinels who may or may not be trying to stop RetroGirl from using her powers, or altering others.
